Most Common Flower Mistakes Made By Couples for Their Wedding
Flowers are an important part of every wedding, no matter how big or small you are planning the event to be. There is more than just the simple bridal bouquet to think about. You must also be aware of bridesmaid’s bouquets as well as any floral decorations.
All this flower talk can quickly become overwhelming and mistakes can be made. Here we will take a look at some of the biggest mistakes couples make when choosing the right flowers and floral arrangement on their wedding day.
It is hoped by understanding these common mistakes, you can learn from this and not make the mistakes yourself! There is a major difference between an average and brilliant looking bouquet (or floral table decorations).
Mistake #1: Unrealistic Expectations
Just like when you go to the hairdresser, show them a photo of exactly what you want and then you walk out thinking the end result is nothing like the picture you showed. There are other circumstances that come into play when it comes to flowers and most of the time the finish product will not look exactly like the picture you showed the florist.
It is important to keep this in mind. It is a picture; the flowers probably didn’t move around too much and weren’t expected to stay fresh for several hours. Also have a think about what time of the year it is, the flower you are obsessed with may not actually be in season at the time of your wedding.
We see so many brides come in having their heart set on one particular style. Yes it is good to have images and inspiration to show your florist. But also come in with an open mind and listen to suggestions made by the florist. You could end up with something much better than the photo!
Mistake #2: Flowers Before Venue
Let’s put this simply: you need to choose your venue before you decide on the flowers. As well as this, when you are making your floral decision, you need to keep your venue in mind. Build your floral arrangement around the existing look of the venue.
For example, you wouldn’t want a modern wedding in pastels (i.e. blush, white and lavender) if you have already chosen a vintage classic ballroom that featured colours such as orange and red. Flowers have the ability to make or break the look you are trying to achieve for your wedding. So make sure you take the time to think about what does and doesn’t work with the venue you have chosen.
Mistake #3: Flowers Everywhere
Yes, flowers are important and you should take your time in choosing the best ones for your wedding. However, flowers do not need to be literally everywhere. We find that some couples will really go overboard with the amount of flowers they want to have.
Flowers do add a nice touch, but most of the time they will go unnoticed by guests (unless they are really bad!). We would suggest, having one or two statement floral pieces and then including other details like candles. This is particularly helpful to those on a budget.
Mistake #4: Colours and Type of Flower
The colour of your flowers is obviously essential, but it is important to not have your heart set on only one colour. As well as this, you need to not go into the florist with only one type of flower in mind. As we touched on above, different flowers come into bloom during different seasons. This means the flower that you want may not actually be available during the time of your wedding.
You should always have a couple of options in mind and hopefully that will mean the florist is able to make one of your options work. There are also other factors that made need to come into consideration. For example, the flower that you want may be in season but due to poor weather or high demand, the flower may not be available.
Weddings are a wonderful time and your flowers have the ability to really tie it all together. There are a few make or break mistakes that you need to be aware of to ensure you get the most out of your flowers and they are still picture perfect at the end of the night.
